Earnings:

Earnings PM: "Here we go again." Third Quarter reporting season lurches into action with Dow constituent and aluminum concern Alcoa (AA). General sentiment going into earnings season is low with stocks attempting to price in impact of Europe's credit crisis, China's slowing growth and stateside double dip fears. As much, stage could be set for better-than-feared bargain-hunting.

THIS WEEKS MARKET MOVERS

Analysts expect profits to increase a bit more than 5% to $0.47 per share from $0.42 from the former and to match last year's $0.54 level at Adobe. Technically, shares of ORCL appear to be a solid read on whether the market's congestion pattern will prove to be a base for higher prices or a weekly bear flag.

THIS WEEK'S MARKET MOVERS

chart

Monday:
Economic: NA.
Earnings:
Brady (BRC).

Tuesday:
Economic:  Import/Export, Treasury Budget (-$132B).

Earnings: Earnings doesn't get any more boring than this week other than big box electronics retailer Best Buy (BBY) reporting Tuesday morning and to a lesser extent RIM (RIMM) on Thursday evening. Analysts expect Best Buy to show a dip in profits from the year ago's $0.60 per share to $0.52.

Technically, shares of BBY are putting together an all-too-common and rather enigmatic congestion pattern. The best that can be said is at some point soon the price action is likely to reveal itself as either a bearish flag or a corrective base and springboard for higher prices.

Other: Cracker Barrel (CBRL).

Wednesday:
Economic:  Weekly Mortgage Index, PPI & Core (0.0% & 0.2% vs. 0.2% & 0.4%), Retail Sales & ex Auto (0.2% & 0.3% vs. 0.5% & 0.5%), Business Inv (0.5%), Weekly Crude.
